Normal hot melters are generally not sufficient for the industrial foil lamination of large-format workpieces, such as furniture panels or floor panels. The amount of adhesive required is far higher than the usual market quantity for most hot glue melters. However, WPR has developed a drum melter precisely for such high-performance productions which, thanks to its ribbed melting plate, achieves a melting rate of 90kg per hour, depending on the PUR adhesive used.

The RAY-MELTER 200 High Fusion is a bulk melter from the family of drum melters in which 200kg glue drums are processed. The great advantage of drum melters is that the adhesive is only melted on the contact surface with the lowered melting platen. The remaining adhesive in the drum is therefore not exposed to thermal stress and retains its characteristic adhesive properties. This also allows longer work breaks and idle times of the drum in the melter without having to drain the adhesive.

What applications is the RAY-MELTER 200 HF drum melter suitable for?

The RAY-MELTER 200 High Fusion is used in large-scale industrial production. It is specially designed for the use of reactive polyurethane hot melt adhesives and works in production lines on which large-format workpieces are processed. These include, among others:

  • Large-scale foil lamination of panels and boards
    Large-format boards made of wood and wood-based materials are laminated with decorative foils to enhance their appearance. They are usually further processed into wall panelling, furniture components, door panels and other interior design elements. The adhesive is applied on this type of system either by a slot nozzle glue head or roller coater application.
  • Production of composite panels
    Here, different layers, sometimes made of different materials, are bonded together to form a multi-layer panel. The adhesive is applied over a large area using rollers and then the next layer is pressed into place. This process is repeated depending on the number of layers. Sandwich panels are also produced in a similar way. They usually contain a panel core with a honeycomb structure or foamed material to reduce the weight of the panels and improve thermal and sound insulation.
  • Coating of floor panels
    Floors such as LVT floors or modern hybrid or design floors based on wood are also manufactured on wide industrial lines, whereby the individual layers are bonded together with hot-melt adhesives. This is usually done by roller application, but sometimes also by slot nozzle application.
    In all these cases, it is important to supply the wide foil lamination machines with sufficient pre-melted adhesive in order to be able to process the large-format workpieces at efficient working speeds. Complex melting systems for high-performance production

To ensure continuous production, the drum melter often works in tandem with another melter so that when one drum runs out of glue, the second melter takes over and the 200 kg glue drum can be changed.

If the volume of glue is particularly high or if two machines are supplied by a single bulk melter, the appliance can be equipped with two glue pumps and glue hoses that are controlled separately and independently.

If glue consumption is particularly high, the drum melters can also work in battery mode, i.e. more than two melters supply a central tank melter together or alternately, which acts as a buffer to supply the system with the required adhesive.

The programmable daily and weekly timers, which enable automatic preheating and switch-off, provide additional convenience. This means that the appliance is always ready for use as soon as production starts. Eco mode reduces the temperature in the melter to around 80°C, minimising the thermal load on the adhesive during work breaks – for example during changeovers. This saves energy and extends the service life of the materials.
