Are you looking for a high-performance foil slitter?

Do you need to make up large rolls of film in the shortest possible time or cut them to suitable roll widths? Do you want to reduce your stock levels and optimise your lead times? Do you offer foil converting as a service to your customers?

High performance for industrial applications

The W-CUT.1400 automatic foil slitting machine has been specially developed for industrial applications with the highest demands. It is the ideal tool for foil manufacturers to offer their customers a fast and reliable service. The same applies to panel laminating companies that process films with large film widths, but also for profile lamination, where large quantities and different foil sizes have to be made available.

The automatic slitter can be used to precisely cut PVC window foils, paper, and plastic films as well as thin laminates for the furniture industry. The width of the master rolls can range from 300mm to 1400mm. This might result in additional savings for you, as maximum-width rolls are usually cheaper to buy than rolls that have already been pre-cut by the manufacturer. However, you can not only process foil logs in their original size but also re-cut rolls that you have already cut to use them for other orders than originally intended.

Precise set-up in just a few minutes

Thanks to the automatic set-up process, the entire system is ready for operation in just a few minutes. Conventional slitting and winding machines are set up manually. The operator measures the required film widths and places the slitting knives on the shaft accordingly. In the second step, the roll cores must be positioned at the same distances on the rewinding shaft. This entire set-up process is very time-consuming and offers a high error potential for the operator, which can result in a loss of quality or even material.

With automatic foil slitters, on the other hand, the roll widths are simply entered via the control panel and a robot arm positions the knives and counter knives with high precision. A laser pointer indicates the positions of the roll cores, so there is no need to measure the distances and the system can start the slitting process in just a few minutes.

Maximum efficiency

The W-CUT.1400 foil slitting machine is equipped with 25 knives, allowing you to produce up to 26 partial rolls in a single slitting process. The slitter reaches a working speed of up to 150 metres per minute. This means that a roll of film can be slit and rewound in a very short time, enabling multiple slitting operations to be carried out in the same time compared to manual systems.

Guaranteed quality

When cutting film rolls, particular attention must be paid to clean cut edges and correct film tension throughout the entire cutting process. Frequent defects include frayed cut edges, telescopic rolls and sometimes invisible defects such as film stretching and micro-cracks in the surface.

To eliminate all these effects in advance, our automatic foil-cutting machine is equipped with several advanced systems. The specially hardened knives are mounted on stable holders so that the cutting angle is always correct and straight. At the same time, the knives and counter knives are self-sharpening so that they deliver excellent cutting results over a very long period.

There is also a specially developed foil brake with an integrated load cell, which measures and automatically regulates the effective foil tension regardless of the roll diameter and width. Depending on the type of foil, the desired foil tension can be entered via the control panel. Thanks to the friction winding shafts, rolls of different widths can be wound simultaneously with uniform tension. In combination, this prevents film stretching or even tearing, as well as excessively loose roll winding.

WPR has developed a new web edge control system especially for this machine, which ensures uniform foil guidance even with tolerances in the foil log. This system also eliminates the need to trim the foil rolls, which saves a lot of material and production waste.

To ensure that no dust or dirt particles get under the foil during cutting and winding, the foil is deionised, i.e. any static charges are removed. This prevents spontaneous discharges, i.e. unpleasant small electric shocks for the operator, as well as the attraction of dirt particles.

Work safety is a priority

As with all WPR cutting systems, we take care to find the safest solution for the operator. This means that the foil-cutting system is completely shielded by light barriers during the cutting operation. When entering the danger zone, the system stops immediately to prevent injuries from the outset.

It also prevents the operator from coming into contact with the cutting blades while working. The automatic set-up process therefore represents an improvement in work safety. In addition, the automatic insertion of the foil and the integrated cleaning procedure for the cutting blades also prevent unnecessary contact with the rotary blades.

All data at a glance

You will certainly want to be able to track the work of your automatic foil-slitting system. This is why all data can be exported digitally or imported directly into your ERP system via OPC UA. This not only gives you an overview of your system’s performance data, but you can also use the data for your production planning or to manage your foil stock.
