Autonomy in foil management

Laminating companies often have to be able to react flexibly to orders and changing production needs. For this reason, every laminating plant usually has its own foil slitter, which allows the foil rolls to be cut to the required widths.

Film cutting

In the set-up process, the machine operator positions the ten cutting knives and counter-knives at the desired distance according to the foil widths to be achieved. He clamps the master roll with a width of up to 700mm on one side, guides the film to be cut through the rotating knives and glues the foil ends onto the cardboard cores of the new rolls. In the cutting process, the mother roll is unrolled, the foil is cut to the respective width and rolled up again in the various partial rolls on the back of the machine.

What do you have to pay attention to?

In this simple as well as effective cutting process, the foil is cut gently and precisely, paying particular attention to sharp cut edges (no fraying of the edges) and the avoidance of telescopic rolls. Equally important is the correct control of the film tension during the cutting process to avoid foil stretching or even tearing. Excessive tension on the foil can cause micro-cracks that significantly impair the properties of the film and lead to surface damage on the laminated profile.
